Durban Poison has deep roots in the Sativa landrace gene pool. The strain’s historic phenotypes were first noticed in the late 1970s by one of America’s first International strain hunters, Ed Rosenthal.

According to cultivation legend, Rosenthal was in South Africa in search of new genetics and ran across a fast flowering strain in the port city of Durban. After arriving home in the U.S., Rosenthal conducted his own selective breeding process on his recently imported seeds, then begin sharing. Rosenthal gave Mel Frank some of his new South African seeds, and the rest was cannabis history. Frank, who wrote the “Marijuana Grower’s Guide Deluxe" in 1978, modified the gene pool to increase resin content and decrease the flowering time.

In search of a short-season varietal that could hit full maturation on the U.S. East Coast, Frank’s crossbreeding efforts resulted in two distinct phenotypes, the “A” line and “B” line. The plant from Frank’s “A” line became today’s Durban Poison, while the “B” line was handed off to Amsterdam breeder David Watson, also known as “Sam the Skunkman.”

Adverse Effects

Durban Poison is known for its high THC content and is often used by people looking for a powerful psychoactive experience. However, Durban Poison can also have some adverse effects, particularly for first-time users or those sensitive to THC. Some of the most common side effects include paranoia, dry mouth, anxiety, pain, depression, loss of appetite, and jitteriness.

While most of these effects are temporary and will dissipate after a few hours, they can be very unpleasant for some people. For this reason, it's crucial to start with a modest dose and increase it gradually until you discover your sweet spot. Medical Uses

The strain is also popular for its ability to boost energy and mood. Despite its high THC content, Durban Poison is a fairly mellow strain. It produces feelings of euphoria and relaxation without causing couch lock or sleepiness in medical marijuana patients.

Durban Poison has been used to treat conditions like depression, migraine, epilepsy, cancer, ADHD, and ADD. Additionally, the strain can be utilized to induce euphoria. It's crucial to remember that Durban Poison should only be taken sparingly owing to its high THC level. However, the strain's strength makes it unsuitable for first-time users.

Treatment of Breast Cancer

Cancer is a disease that has long baffled medical professionals. The primary etiology of cancer is still largely unclear, despite recent major improvements in therapy. Due to the insufficient research, it is challenging to create targeted medicines that efficiently eliminate cancer cells without damaging healthy cells. Cancer treatment with specific plant chemicals is one potential field of investigation.

One such substance that has demonstrated potential in the treatment of breast cancer is Durban Poison. This strain inhibits tumor cell proliferation and spread and induces apoptosis (cell death) in breast cancer cells. In animal studies, Durban Poison has been shown to significantly slow the growth of breast tumors. These encouraging findings imply that Durban Poison may one day be utilized successfully as a breast cancer therapy.

Health Risks

The primary active component in marijuana is THC. Durban Poison is a THC-rich strain of marijuana. It is in charge of marijuana's euphoric effects. Durban Poison can cause seizures, heart problems, and high blood pressure.

It can also cause dry eyes and low blood pressure. The CBDs in Durban Poison are low to none. This means that it is not likely to cause any serious side effects than the strains with more CBD. Before utilizing this strain, it is still essential to be aware of any possible hazards.

How To Grow

Durban Poison is a tall, fast-growing plant that can reach up to six feet. It has thin, serrated leaves that are deep green. Small and white, there are many seeds produced by the blossoms. Durban Poison is typically harvested in late summer or early autumn.

It thrives in warm, well-drained soil in warm temperatures. Growing the plant from seed is rather simple. Once grown, it needs minimal upkeep and can withstand dry weather. Gardeners seeking a low-maintenance plant that will yield a bountiful harvest might consider Durban Poison.

Durban Poison is a vigorous and easy-to-grow cannabis Sativa strain. It is well-known for having a high THC concentration and giving off a strong, energizing high. A healthy Durban Poison plant can be grown indoors or outdoors, and if you're lucky enough to live in a warm climate, it can be harvested all year round.

Durban Poison weed strainTo grow Durban Poison, start by purchasing seeds from a reputable source. The seed rate will vary depending on the size of the planting area, but as a general rule of thumb, you should sow one seed per square foot. Sowing time should be around mid-spring, and fertilizer should be applied once seedlings have emerged.

The growth period will depend on the climate, but Durban Poison will be ready to harvest in most cases after around 10-12 weeks. Space plants are approximately 18 inches apart to allow for proper air circulation and water during the vegetative stage. If cultivating outside, pick a sunny location with well-drained soil.

Growing At Home

Growing Durban Poison indoors can be a great way to enjoy this delicious South African strain all year round. Here are some pointers to get you going.

Harvest: Durban Poison is ready for harvest after about 9-10 weeks of growth.

Pots: You will need at least 5-gallon pots for your plants.

The vegetative period for Durban Poison is relatively short, so you can expect your plants to start flowering in just a few weeks.

Irrigation: Be sure to water your plants regularly, as Durban Poison is susceptible to root rot.

Growing Conditions: Durban Poison prefers warm, humid conditions - so keep an eye on your temperature and humidity levels if you're growing this strain indoors. With a little care and attention, you can enjoy fresh, delicious Durban Poison all year round!

Greenhouse Growing

Sowing the Durban Poison seeds is best done in small pots filled with a quality potting mix. Sow 2-3 cannabis seeds per pot, and thin out to the strongest seedling once they have germinated.

Durban Poison has a relatively short growth period and can be ready to harvest in as little as eight weeks from South African seeds. The plants may be moved into bigger pots or directly into the ground after they have grown to the appropriate size.

Because Durban Poison is a thirsty plant, consistent watering is necessary for good development. Between waterings, let the soil somewhat dry out since too much moisture might cause root rot. Put this plant in a sunny area both indoors and outside since it also needs a lot of light. During the warmer months, it can also tolerate some direct sunlight.

Temperature is also an important factor for Durban Poison strain growth. This plant does not survive cold and enjoys warm weather. If growing outdoors, bring it indoors or provide some form of protection if temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.

Harvest and Yield

Durban Poison is a Sativa-dominant hybrid with high yield potential. Indoor production can reach up to 700g/m², while outdoor plants can produce up to 1kg/plant. This variety is a fantastic option for novice growers because it is resistant to the majority of illnesses and pests.

Large and thick buds with a high THC concentration are present. The flavor of Durban Poison is also recognized to be sweet and fruity. The quality of this strain is amazing, making it one of the most popular choices among cannabis connoisseurs.

How To Enjoy It

The delicious smoke and piney flavor of Durban Poison makes it one of the optimal strains for vaping. When smoked or vaped, Durban Poison delivers THC levels of up to 20%, meaning that it can produce strong psychoactive effects. However, it is also possible to eat Durban Poison, either by chews or joints.

When consumed this way, the effects can be more mellow and may take longer to onset. Nevertheless, Durban Poison is a versatile strain that can be enjoyed in various ways.
